Although its title was chosen after the painting was complete, Promethean came to evoke the enduring image of Prometheus—the mythic figure whose suffering became inseparable from the gift he bestowed upon humanity. The painting does not illustrate the ancient story directly, but explores the same archetypal territory of sacrifice, endurance, and transformation. The figure's body has been torn open, exposing not an inner anatomy but the sky beyond, while strands of living tissue struggle to bridge the impossible wound. Suspended between destruction and renewal, the work suggests that what is broken is not always lost. Sometimes our deepest wounds become openings through which the world itself can be seen.
“The line between good and evil runs not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either — but right through every human heart.” - Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Reverse: Triumph of a magic sword.
