Burden of Light presents a towering funeral beast wandering through the ruins of a dead world, carrying an entire cathedral of candles upon its back like a mobile shrine to memory, suffering, and endurance. Faces emerge endlessly from its tangled flesh — mourners, saints, fools, and forgotten souls fused together into a single living reliquary illuminated by wavering flame. The candles suggest enlightenment, devotion, and sacred revelation, yet their weight transforms illumination itself into a burden, something exhausting to bear across the wasteland of existence. Beneath the creature slithers a crowned serpent, an ancient symbol of cyclical wisdom and temptation, as though guiding or binding the beast on its endless pilgrimage through a world already consumed by decay. The painting inhabits the uneasy space between holiness and horror, asking whether consciousness itself — the terrible privilege of carrying memory, grief, and meaning — is both humanity’s divine gift and its heaviest curse.
