End of the Tale carries a grim, ironic calm: a rider astride a grotesque, horn-crowned beast moves forward through a field of spears as though this is simply how stories conclude. The banner flutters without triumph, and the creature seems burdened by its own multiplicity. The painting suggests that endings are rarely clean; they arrive dragging the accumulated faces, lies, and compromises of the journey behind them.
