In King of Ulster Prophecy, vision becomes rupture. The crowned head appears less sovereign than overtaken, split open by forces that feel ancestral, elemental, and uncontrollable. Radiant eyes burn with revelation, while branching forms invade the skull like roots claiming a ruin. This is prophecy as affliction rather than gift—a violent intimacy between knowledge and flesh. The painting implies that to see too far ahead is to be undone by what is seen, and that kingship, bound to foresight, is inseparable from sacrifice.
