“Misplaced Faith” depicts a scene of overwhelming dread: a host of monstrous, alien-like faces presses in upon a single illuminated figure, their serpentine tongues invading and restraining it. The lone face, horrified and exposed, stands out in light while the surrounding horde remains cloaked in shadow. Subtle details—the single human eyes set on the backs of heads turned away—suggest blindness, denial, or a willful refusal to witness suffering.

This work resonates with themes of mythology and dream-symbolism. In myth, the devouring crowd often represents forces of conformity, corruption, or false worship—the peril of placing trust in powers that ultimately consume rather than protect. The chiaroscuro sharpens this allegory: light isolates the vulnerable figure while darkness conceals the complicity of the many. On a dream level, the painting embodies the anxiety of betrayal and spiritual misdirection—faith directed toward hollow or predatory entities. The result is an unsettling image of distorted devotion, where the search for truth collapses into a nightmare of misplaced allegiance.
