This painting reflects the slow, difficult processing of a relationship’s end. Two heads are bound together even as they turn away from one another, suggesting a separation that has occurred in intention but not yet in spirit. Their damaged, hollowed eyes speak to a shared blindness—not a lack of care, but an inability to fully see the harm being done while still entangled. The binding cloth becomes a symbol of memory, habit, and time: something soft and familiar that nonetheless restrains and erodes. The stone-like faces suggest emotional hardening, a petrification that sets in when endurance replaces tenderness. Adrift in an empty, unsettled sky, the figures exist in the aftermath—no longer together, not yet free. When September came, clarity arrived, and with it the recognition that both had been blind to the damage they’d caused.

Reverse: The soul is freed from its confines.
