Inspired by Walter de la Mare's haunting poem The Listeners, this painting presents a crumbling house poised between ruin and renewal. Vines creep over broken brickwork while rough timbers support the aging structure. The building itself resembles an astonished face, its tall windows forming wide eyes and its dark entrance an open mouth, as though the house has become The Listener of the poem's mysterious summons. Within the shadow of an upper window another face can be glimpsed, hinting at a lingering presence. Neither wholly abandoned nor entirely inhabited, the structure becomes a meditation on memory, endurance, and the strange consciousness that places acquire through the passage of time.
Reverse: A fractured stone idol stands in a woody realm.
